The Pros and Cons of a Vegas Wedding

December 8th, 2009

Las Vegas has always been a popular place for weddings. As with any type of weddings, there are advantages and disadvantages to tying the knot in Sin City. Use this list of pros and cons to help you decide if a Vegas wedding is right for you.

Pro: Las Vegas is glamorous. A Vegas bride has the perfect excuse to choose a sexy beaded wedding gown with lots of sparkling crystal bridal jewelry. Imagine yourself as an extra in “Ocean’s Eleven” or a James Bond film with gorgeous ladies and dashing tuxedo-clad men in the high end casinos. That can be the vibe you channel to put together the perfect crystal beaded gown and dazzling jewelry for your Vegas nuptials.

Con: If you do not consider yourself to be a glamorous person, you may be uncomfortable with the sexy attitude of Vegas. Certainly some brides will wear traditional lace gowns for Las Vegas weddings, but they are in the minority. If you are not comfortable showing some skin, you might prefer to hold your wedding elsewhere.

Pro: Anything goes in Vegas. That is a large part of the appeal for many brides and grooms. Want a wedding that is whimsical, quirky, or just plain silly? You will be able to find whatever you want in Las Vegas. Especially if it is an Elvis impersonator.

Con: That whole “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” attitude. If you are the sort of couple who prefers a traditional and wholesome wedding experience, the whole Las Vegas vibe may be too much for your taste. Hint: if the word “conservative” is one which you use to describe your dream wedding, Vegas is not for you!

Runaway Brides (and Grooms!) – Romantic Elopements

June 17th, 2008

The big church wedding is not for everyone. Some couples cannot bear the stress or the expense of planning a big wedding. Other women are simply not comfortable with being the center of attention. Whatever the reason, there are many ways to make an elopement feel just as special as a big wedding with all the pomp and circumstance.

Even if you chose to elope, your marriage is still worthy of celebration, and deserves to be treated like the special occasion that is is. You will surely want a festive bridal ensemble, though what that means will depend on where you get married. Elopements are not always spontaneous, and can be as simple as a marriage before a judge in City Hall or as involved as a ceremony on a Hawaiian beach.

Las Vegas is the first place that comes to mind for elopements. Vegas brides should go all out – dazzling dress, sparling Swarovski crystal bridal jewelry, and a fabulous headpiece. On the other hand, for a City Hall wedding, the look should be low-key and chic. A smashing suit or a tea length wedding gown would be perfect choices. And don’t forget a bouquet.

Whether your elopement is spur of the moment or scheduled in advance, plan to have a big party with all of your friends and family when you arrive home. The people who love you will want the chance to celebrate and raise a toast to the newlyweds. After all, even if you do not want a big fuss made over you, every bride and groom deserve to be fêted.
